Parallax’s Propeller Cogs

25 Jul

The Propeller micro-controller design reminds me of Cogswell Cogs from Jetsons. High-tech, technology of the future… May be Elroy used to program these things when he grew up 🙂

A very innovative design indeed. Eight 32-bit processors on a single chip offering 160MIPS of aggregate processing power. All the eight “Cogs” operate independently of each other and hence allow simultaneous processing. Something the micro-controller users always wished for and dreamt of.

The figure above shows the elegant and intelligently designed Propeller micro-controller.

I’ll be posting a series of articles about this amazing multi-processor design shortly.

Heh heh – I'll bet Spacely Space Sprockets would have an issue with that.

I always did wonder what a Cog looked like – more than that would someone tell me what a sprocket it ;P
